Free Online Tools for IP Office Practice During the COVID-19 Crisis (and Beyond) (RECORDING)
Since the COVID-19 crisis began, IPO members have indicated that online tools related to IP office practice may become increasingly important to the user community. This webinar will address a number of free tools offered online to assist IP practitioners, many of which incorporate aspects of artificial intelligence. The tools should be useful to IPO members not only during the current crisis, but even once it has passed.
Panelists from Google and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will address tools that their organizations offer to assist with such issues as:
- Patent classification
- Patent searching
- Trademark searching
- Transcriptions and
This is expected to be a discussion that will not only inform your current practice, but that will shed light on future developments in this area.

Claudio Cocorocchia is responsible for WIPO’s business planning and strategy for new digital services and its artificial intelligence systems. Prior to joining WIPO at the beginning of 2019, Claudio drove digital content rights business development for IP owners, such as Sony Pictures Entertainment, and mobile publishers, such as Glu, where he helped start their first international office in 2004. Additionally, Claudio established and led Antaes Consulting’s Digital Practice between 2010 and 2014 and the World Economic Forum’s Media and Entertainment community program in 2016.
Ian Wetherbee is a staff software engineer at Google where he runs the Google Patents team to make patent information universally accessible and useful. He works across the product from data processing to machine learning and user experience design. Before patents, he graduated with honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. He is a member of IPO’s Patent Search Committee.
